TSG have a background in skiing and downhill mountain biking - they've designed the Artilage (A) gear with a material that acts a bit like cornstarch syrup! It's almost liquid through movement, providing no restriction. When it gets some impact, it stiffens up and gets dense!
This is very different to a classic dual-density foam. It's very good protection, and many riders choose to wear these under baggy jeans.
Other gasket-style knee sleeves can stretch and fall down, though, so the Scout A has clever velcro strapping both top and bottom.
